Chairwoman and Executive Director

Cátia oversees operations and risk management, ensuring strategic financial oversight and regulatory compliance. She is an experienced financial executive with over 20 years of financial management experience, a strong knowledge of the regulated asset management industry, board experience and a Big Four audit background. She has spent most of her career in the asset management sector, where she has successfully enhanced financial performance, optimised tax strategies, and ensured compliance with complex industry regulations. Her board-level experience, combined with her expertise in institutional asset management and financial structuring, makes Cátia a key leader in driving FGI’s operational excellence and long-term investment strategy.

Executive Director
Luís Araújo oversees financial management, strategy, budgeting, and environmental sustainability, ensuring the company’s operational efficiency and long-term growth. With over 30 years of experience in financial management, he has extensive knowledge in supervising accounting, treasury, management control, and taxation, having worked in various international companies. His global experience includes three years in Ireland and six years in Africa, where he played a key role in financial oversight across diverse economic landscapes. With his deep understanding of corporate finance and cross-border financial operations, Luís contributes to enhancing financial performance and implementing sustainable investment strategies that align with global market trends.

Carolina Welsh

Executive Director
Carolina is responsible for the origination, execution, and oversight of investment portfolios, bringing over 18 years of experience in Investment Banking and Asset Management across New York, Lisbon, and London. She began her career in Project Finance, focusing on infrastructure, power, and renewable energy. After being involved in the launch of an investment bank branch in New York, she worked in Origination and Structured Finance for Latam and North America. Carolina later joined Gemcorp Capital in London, specializing in private credit and special situations in Emerging Markets. In 2018, she became an Executive Director at Atlântico Europa, overseeing the investment banking division. Most recently, she focused on restructuring a family office's real estate projects before joining FGI in 2024. With her international experience in structuring and executing of investments and the contribution to the successful development of two dynamic businesses, Carolina brings substantial added value to FGI’s investment strategies and operational effectiveness.

Legal and Compliance Officer
Edith is a specialist in legal advisory and regulatory compliance, with over seven years of experience in the international financial sector and global markets. She is licensed lawyer with the Portuguese Bar Association, with extensive expertise in AML/CTF (Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing) compliance, ensuring regulatory adherence and risk management in complex financial environments. Her in-depth knowledge of legal frameworks and compliance protocols enables Edith to effectively navigate global regulatory challenges, safeguarding the FGI’s operations and upholding industry’s best practices.

Non-Executive Director
Joseph Leung is responsible for the portfolio valuation, investment strategy and business development. Mr. Leung has 18 years of experience in working in the global asset management and investment industry. As a registered Civil Engineer, CFA and FRM, he combines technical expertise with financial acumen. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hong Kong and an MBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with further executive education at Harvard and London Business School. Mr. Leung has worked in the world’s largest engineering consultant firm AECOM Technology Corporation and has subsequently gained valuable experience in the financial industry, managing assets worth millions of dollars at Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. Recently, he served as a non-executive director at a listed construction company in Hong Kong and as a board member of a technology startup incubated by a local university institution. Joseph brings a unique blend of engineering, finance and strategic leadership skills to his role, offering valuable insights into investment structuring, risk management and business expansion.
